About the artists:

In 2005, Laura Bell, a painter, and Ian Ganassi, a poet, entered into the collaboration that resulted in the ongoing series “The Corpses,” a group of collages that began with a half-finished poem and several hand-scrawled phrases on a piece of printer paper stained with coffee rings that Ganassi mailed to Bell.

Laura Bell’s paintings and collages have been exhibited in New York City, Chicago, Berlin, and elsewhere. She is a recipient of an Artists Space Grant and has been an artist-in-residence at the Millay Colony for the Arts. She lives, paints, and makes Corpses in Long Island City, New York.

Ian Ganassi’s poems have appeared in numerous literary magazines, including Mad Hatter’s Review (current issue), New American Writing, Interim, Blackbox Manifold and Sawbuck. Translations of the first six books of the Aeneid have appeared in New England Review. Ian lives, writes, and makes corpses, with his imaginary cat, in New Haven, Connecticut.

More images from the corpse series can be viewed at www.thecorpses.com

A group of 40 pieces from the Corpse series will be exhibited at AMP gallery in Provincetown, MA, in July 2014.
